Kicking Back in Paihia Town

Bay of Island View from our Apartment

Today we decided to take a vacation from our vacation, and just hang out and do very little.  And I’m happy to report we were successful.

But before I say what we did do today, let’s start off with the view that greeted us in the morning – the view we couldn’t see when we checked in last night.  A very nice place to live for four days!

Anyway, this morning we took it slow.  Made a nice egg breakfast at home and Skyped with Sara and Wayne.

Snapshot of Paihia Town
We eventually drove into town to see what Paihia had to offer.  It is a cute little, mostly tourist town, with lots of restaurants, tours of all different kinds, backpackers spots, shops, etc., etc.  It also has a really nice swimming beach and beach park, which is where we ended up – having a nice picnic for lunch.  We walked around town for a while, exploring. Before we left town we booked our island cruise for the next day, then headed back to our apartment to hang out some more.

As the day was ending, we enjoyed another glass of New Zealand wine and then went back into town for a delicious Indian dinner at a cute little waterfront restaurant (that doubles as a bakery/breakfast shop by day, Indian restaurant by night).  After dinner, we came home, had one more glass of wine as the sun set (around 8pm here) then watched a John Stewart show I had previously downloaded from iTunes.  Then off to bed.   A perfectly uneventful day!
